Warner Brothers acquired rights to "Death Note" remake (live-action Hollywood adaptation)

Last year, it was reported that Vertigo Entertainment is developing "Death Note" remake and the new development is Warner Brothers has acquired the rights to adapt Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's supernatural-suspense manga series "Death Note" into a live-action film.

Screenwriters Vlas and Charles Parlapanides which Vertigo hired are also still on board with this project.

According to Variety, the film will be drawn from the first three installments of the 13 manga volumes.

Story centers on a college student who accidentally finds a misplaced "death note," infusing him with the power to kill merely by writing anyone's name on the page while picturing the person in his mind. The book is from a death god, who dropped the book on earth for his own purposes. The person who have this book can begins to re-create the world as he sees fit, by killing those he deems unworthy.

This manga bestseller has already been adapted into three live-action films and one television anime series in Japan. The US version will be drawn from the manga not from the previous movie.
