Jackie Earle Haley has signed as Elm Street's Freddy Krueger

New Line and Platinum Dunes' has signed their new serial murderer as Watchmen star Jackie Earle Haley accepted the role of Freddy Krueger “Nightmare on Elm Street” remake.

It was confirmed by Variety and as previously reported Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing with John Rickard co-producing. Samuel Bayer will direct from Wesley Strick's script, with lensing set to begin next month in Chicago.

Another project for Haley is his crazy mental patient role in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film, "Shutter Island".

“Nightmare on Elm Street” is set to be release on April 16, 2010.
