Two special editions which feature Black Hollywood (A Celebration of our Excellence) in the March 2008 issue of Essence Magazine.
One magazine cover features "The Women of Influence," Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson along with this year's nominee Ruby Dee. Actresses Paula Patton and Kerry Washington are also joined by film producer Tracey Edmonds, film director Kasi Lemmons, talent agent Andrea Nelson Meigs, former Motown Records exec turned television veteran Suzanne de Passe and superpublicist Marvet Britto.
For the homage to the men, Academy Award nominated thespian and producer Don Cheadle graces the cover, along with a gate-fold featuring power brokers such as film producer and talent manager James Lassiter, TV One chief Johnathan Rodgers, movie agent Charles King and entertainment legend Quincy Jones.
Acclaimed lensman Kwaku Alston shot their cover in Los Angles last month.
"Ah, the stuff Essence covers are made of," the magazine's beauty director and cover editor Mikki Taylor said about the sessions, which she also described as "no small feat."
Elsewhere in the issue, which hits newsstands today, are profiles on Hollywood's new power generation; young actors Evan Ross, Jurnee Smollet, Tristan Wilds and Raven-Symone.
