R&B singer and former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant Mario was arrested last week (October 1) for allegedly assaulting his mother Shawntia Hardaway but Mario's lawyer explained that it is "an unfortunate incident between a loving son and a mother who continues to struggle with a devastating addiction."
Mario's Baltimore attorney Hassan Murphy told CNN, "Anyone who has waged the battle to save loved ones from the forces of drugs knows the irrational behavior that almost always accompanies their actions. Despite the allegations, Mario remains committed to supporting his mother."
Mario (real name: Mario Dewar Bennett) was charged with second degree assault after her mother told the police that his son had been "throwing and damaging property" and she was pushed "eight feet into a living room wall, where Ms. Hardaway hit her head on the wall." Mario was released on $50,000 bond.
It will be a lot of work if his mother continues to struggle with her addiction but the assault issue is another story.
