San Diego County Superior Court ordered actor Shelley Malil to served Life imprisonment with the possibility of parole on Thursday (December 16) for attacking and stabbing his ex-girlfriend more than 20 times in August 2008.
Malil was convicted of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon last October.
During the trial, Malil visited Kendra Beebe at her San Marcos home in suburban San Diego to make amends for taking personal items from her home but he found her with another man. Malil stabbed her with a kitchen knife. Luckily, Kendra Beebe survived the attack.
Malil will be eligible for parole in about 10 years. He expressed his remorse to the court by saying "I failed miserably, not only as a human being, but as a father, son, uncle, brother, friend," he said. "What I did to Kendra – I don't have the words to express my remorse."
The 45 year-old actor played one of Steve Carrell's pals in the film "The 40-Year-Old Virgin".
